Update Your MetaEditor To Night Mode || Colour Changes in MetaEditor

By Tom Stewart on 27 August 2021

Programming your trading systems and indicators can be draining at the best of times, especially on your eyes. By default, MetaEditor has a white background which can be harsh on the eyes, and also impact your sleep cycle if you are programming at night.

MetaEditor Defaults

The first way to change the colours is by going to Tools >> Options >> Colors. This is a slow manual process, as you need to change the colours one by one. You can see below the menu for this option.

The second option allows the user to upload a template or change a single colour at a time. To complete this option open a data folder from MT4 or MetaEditor and navigator to “config”. From here open the MetaEditor file (see below). Inside the file there may be an existing colour scheme, so search for this section first. If you don’t have it then you are free to paste in your colour template anywhere. If you do have it, make sure to delete it before adding a new colour template. Ideally post the colour template at the start or end of the file.

The colour template I have used here is below.

[Colors]
Color0=4144959
Color1=15794175
Color2=16776960
Color3=13749760
Color4=6908265
Color5=8894686
Color6=9869462
Color7=13091437
Color8=12377327
Color9=8758149
Color10=36095
Color11=6875882
Color12=14053594
Color13=10724316
Color14=13499135
Color15=16711935

This is how the template looks in MetaEditor:
